Limitations: although responsible when needed, she still holds an almost girlish attraction for the glamour of space exploration. It may sometimes lead her to underestimate the stakes and dangers of a mission. Strengths: Hard worker, reliable in emergencies, she can go for days on very little sleep (but only if really needed) Special Abilities: a green thumb, if not two - born supple as a rubber band - capable of acting as mental anchor for telepaths engaged in mental projections and deep mind melds. Manners: She will occasionally revert to New Pacifica's unsophisticated attitudes. EducationBrowne received a very average education as New Pacifica's educational programs are designed specifically to further the development of the colony. Three years of complementary courses (Federation level), one year of University General Studies, a two-year pre Academy program preceded four years as a Cadet with TFA. Personal HistorySandy Browne is the last of 13 daughters born to a family of farmers. For her thirteenth birthday, her elder sister took her for a trip to the capital, where she got lost in the astroport area. Ending up in a bar, she was rescued by a 25 year old space merchant and developed an instant but lasting crush on him. For three years hence, still cherishing the project to join him, she managed through additional Federation educational videoprograms but failed the exams. It was the local physician who persuaded her family to send her off system for a year special training. By the time she passed her exams, her romantic motivation had been replaced by an unshakable determination to trade the humdrum of the daily life on New Pacifica for the enticing prospect of a career in Starfleet. The two year preparation she went through in order to meet with Star Fleet's Academy recruitment standards were more of a challenge than anyone thought she could take. During that time, however, she found a new confidence in her own possibilities and developed a taste for success. After two years at the Academy, Browne matured enough to realize the importance of what she had left behind. Upon graduating from the Academy, homesickness and a strong sense of duty led her to ask for a LOA when New Pacifica's mining colony on the third moon was devastated by an industrial disaster. She was instead transferred with Starfleet relief teams operating in the sector and remained there for one year before asking for a position on a starship. Her first assignment was the USS Saturn-A, a Galaxy class vessel. In one year, Sandy went through three COs and from one reality check to the next as the ship was successively invaded, attacked and taken into battle. Her final mission with them had her impersonating a young derelict for an undercover mission on a pirate starbase (joint mission with the USS Casey), only to find out eventually that the arm dealer they were after was no other than a former Tango Fleet Officer gone insane. Transferred to Starbase Far Reach (np), the USS Saturn-A port of call, Sandy Browne was happy to resume a way of life more consistent with her expectations, while still remaining in touch with her former crewmates. Her strong, sister-like bond with the Saturn's XO Sylvia Blair and the brutal murder of Captain Brandon Farrel during a diplomatic mission in the Orion system are the two contrasting elements that will forever colour her memories of that time. Browne's former Supervisor at the Academy, Commander Sebastian Reese, arranged her transfer to the prestigious Starbase Tango. After a few months though, she asked for starships assignments again (see personal and psychological profile). Psychological ProfileHow she got where she is not a question easily answered. A mix of very average intellect and keen human intelligence, Sandy is a New Pacifican with a twist - an almost simplistic psyche burdened with an intense curiosity for the intricacies of the mind. Although she was advised to turn to Alien studies, she chose Counselling for a number of reasons. Some had to do with her New Pacifican background, which had her brought up to become a "pacifier", the rest with her need to assert herself by getting as close to the medical profession as she can get. Although politics bore her to death, the fact it can lead to a few diplomatic functions (think parties and dress uniform) is a significant bonus. Many young telepaths at the Academy would tease her by saying she was their favorite remedy for insomnia, as listening to her thoughts never failed to put them to sleep! A more delicate and perceptive comment was made by her own Counsellor, who stated that Sandy's calm nature, her simplicity and her openness amount to an inbred talent to pacify her surroundings. Some have been heard to describe her mental landscape as inner beauty. Sandy is a natural flirt, with a twist. She has a foremost taste for exceptional men, most particularly telepaths or empaths. The fact that she found herself to be falling in love with Captain Brandon Farrell shortly before he was murdered in the Orion star system wasn't disclosed to anyone at the time. Nevertheless, her professional dealings on Starbase Tango with an Orion CMO were self-revealing. Saddled with bitter-sweet memories that she couldn't put to rest, Sandy flew from one short-lived assignment to the next the sad conclusion that one lifetime may not be enough to cope with her loss. She considered a long term assignment on the USS Protostar on the grounds that her Captain, Eaglewind of the Clan Night Star, was a friend and former Saturn-A crew member. Upon Brandon Farrell's come back, she put her career on standby for the time needed to help him recover. Addendum by Counsellor Farrell: The announce of Brandon's death was a terrible shock to Counsellor Browne. Although we had never met in person, I did my best to assist her from a distance over the ensuing period while she struggled to keep her balance. I had some doubts when she joined Brandon on Betazed so shortly after he was given back to us alive, but she proved to be nothing short of professional and supportive to him for all the time he needed to come to terms with his amnesia. Brandon would have pulled through by himself, but her presence and peculiar abilities most probably helped a lot speeding the process along. Addendum by Counsellor and Healer Suvek: The mental training Sandy Browne was given on her homeplanet as "Pacifier" from an early age, as well as the knowledge she derived from our numerous mindmelds and years of practicing mental exercises I taught her then, have shaped her mind unlike anything I have ever observed in a non telepath. This makes her one of the few recorded cases of non telepathic healers to be able to treat related syndroms in telepathic subjects. It would appear to be one application of her capacity of acting like a mental anchor and stabilizing influence in deep melds and similar experiences. Counsellor Browne is the only New Pacifican "pacifier" to have extensively traveled and settled offworld. No studies exist at this time of their training and practices.
